Bomb Threat Hoaxes Target Delhi Airport and Hospitals
Bomb threats were reported at the Indira Gandhi International Airport and eight city hospitals in Delhi on Sunday, reminiscent of the threats sent to over 200 schools in the region on May 1. Fortunately, officials confirmed that the threats were hoaxes, and no suspicious devices were found.
The first report came from Burari Hospital in north Delhi, followed by complaints from several other hospitals including GTB Hospital, Delhi State Cancer Institute, Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, DDU Hospital, Bara Hindu Rao Hospital, Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital, Dada Dev Hospital, and Janakpuri Super Speciality Hospital. The airport also received a threat email later in the evening.
Despite the seriousness of the threats, police assured that patients were not evacuated and thorough checks were conducted in all the facilities. Deputy commissioners of police from various districts confirmed that no suspicious items were found, and the emails were deemed to be hoaxes.
The alleged email threats mentioned a group called ‘Court’ and warned of explosive devices inside the buildings, urging authorities to disarm them to prevent harm to innocent people. Police are investigating the matter and plan to register a case.
At the airport, CISF officials handled the situation and declared the email as a hoax after conducting necessary security protocols. No passengers, visitors, or staff were evacuated, and enhanced security measures were put in place.
This incident comes on the heels of similar bomb threats sent to schools in the region on May 1, originating from a Russian server. Police are still working to identify the suspect behind those threats.
Overall, the swift response from authorities and the thorough checks conducted in response to the bomb threats ensured the safety of all individuals in the affected facilities.
