Novant Health Expands in South Carolina: Three Coastal Hospitals Join the Network
Three coastal hospitals in South Carolina have recently joined the Novant Health system, marking a new era in healthcare for the region. East Cooper Medical Center in Mount Pleasant, Hilton Head Hospital in Hilton Head, and Coastal Carolina Hospital in Hardeeville have become part of the not-for-profit system, aiming to combine strengths and expand access to high-quality care.
Novant Health has received top scores for safety in North Carolina, with a focus on safety, quality, and patient experience. The system’s commitment to retaining top-quality talent ensures that high-quality care continues to be available to patients. With over 1,900 physicians providing care at more than 800 locations, Novant Health is dedicated to transforming the health and wellness of communities in coastal South Carolina.
Physicians representing the three hospitals and affiliated clinics have expressed excitement for the future, citing Novant Health’s track record of success and commitment to reducing healthcare disparities. Dr. Ardra Davis-Tolbert, Coastal Carolina Hospital chief of staff, highlighted the system’s dedication to the community and efforts to recruit doctors committed to delivering care across the spectrum.
Dr. Jeffery Reuben, a spine surgeon with the Spine Institute of the Carolinas, and Dr. H. Del Schutte Jr., an orthopedic surgeon at East Cooper Medical Center, both shared their optimism for the partnership with Novant Health. Dr. Toya Pound, who has spent 22 years delivering babies at East Cooper Medical Center, expressed her excitement for the opportunity to provide even greater care with Novant Health.
As part of its expansion, Novant Health has invested approximately $2.4 billion to acquire facilities in Charleston, Beaufort, and Jasper counties. The acquisition includes hospitals, outpatient centers, physician clinics, and emergency departments, further solidifying Novant Health’s commitment to delivering high-quality care close to home in South Carolina.
