Health Survey in New Zealand conducted by the Ministry of Health NZ

New Zealand Health Survey 2022/23: Latest Results and Publications

The latest results from the 2022/23 New Zealand Health Survey have been released, providing valuable insights into the health of New Zealanders. The survey data covers a wide range of indicators on health behaviors, health status, and access to healthcare for both adults and children.

One of the key reports from the survey focuses on racial discrimination, highlighting adults’ experiences of discrimination based on race in the past 12 months and over their lifetime. Another report delves into the smoking status of daily vapers, analyzing whether they are current smokers, ex-smokers, or never-smokers.

The survey, which collects information continuously but reports annually, involves over 13,000 adults and the parents or primary caregivers of over 4,000 children each year. However, due to the impact of COVID-19, the number of interviews conducted in 2021/22 was significantly lower than usual.

Researchers can apply to access the Confidentialised Unit Record Files (CURFs) from the survey after the key results are released. These files have had all identifying information removed to protect individual privacy. The data can also be accessed through the Integrated Data Infrastructure managed by Stats NZ, providing rich insights for better healthcare provision.

The survey results are crucial for the development of health services, policy, and strategy in New Zealand. The data allows for comparisons with previous years and can be viewed by various demographics such as gender, age group, ethnic group, disability status, and level of neighborhood deprivation.

Overall, the 2022/23 New Zealand Health Survey provides a comprehensive overview of the health landscape in the country, offering valuable information for policymakers, healthcare professionals, and researchers.
