Investigation into Tragic Fire at Baby Care New Born Hospital in Delhi’s Vivek Vihar
Tragedy Strikes Baby Care New Born Hospital in Delhi: Seven Babies Die in Massive Blaze
In a heartbreaking incident, seven newborn babies lost their lives in a massive fire that broke out at the Baby Care New Born Hospital in Delhi’s Vivek Vihar area. The hospital, owned by Naveen Khichi, had two exits according to the submitted plan, but one exit was blocked by medicines and machinery, rendering it unusable during the emergency.
A team from NCPCR visited the hospital after the tragedy and discovered grave lapses and violations that led to the tragic deaths of the babies. The hospital lacked emergency exits, functional fire extinguishers, fire alarms, and water sprinkler systems. Additionally, the hospital’s license had expired, and it was only allowed to admit five babies, yet 12 newborns were admitted at the time of the incident.
Further investigations revealed that the hospital staff was not adequately trained for emergencies, as it was the locals who alerted the fire station instead of the hospital staff. The doctors employed by the hospital were found to be only BAMS degree holders, lacking the qualifications to treat newborn children.
Following the incident, the hospital owner Dr. Naveen Khichi and Dr. Aaksh, who was on duty during the fire, were arrested and remanded to three days of police custody by Delhi’s Karkardooma Court.
The tragic incident has raised serious concerns about the safety and preparedness of hospitals in the city, highlighting the need for stricter regulations and enforcement to prevent such disasters in the future.
