Niagara Health celebrates Doctors’ Day by recognizing physicians

Celebrating Niagara Health’s Dedicated Physicians for Doctors’ Day

Niagara Health Celebrates Doctors’ Day with Special Recognition and Illuminations

As Doctors’ Day approaches on Wednesday, May 1, Niagara Health is gearing up to celebrate and honor the dedicated physicians who serve Niagara communities with unwavering commitment and excellence.

With more than 600 physicians representing a diverse array of specialties, Niagara Health’s doctors play an integral role in the organization’s multidisciplinary approach to patient care. Despite the challenges posed by an evolving healthcare landscape, these physicians have demonstrated sacrifices and dedication over the past few years, remaining steadfast in their commitment to delivering exceptional care.

In a time where physician recruitment challenges are felt across many healthcare organizations, Niagara Health has been successful in retaining and recruiting the best and brightest to work across the hospital system. Since May 2023, the organization has welcomed 52 physicians in key areas such as anesthesiology, emergency medicine, and general internal medicine.

To mark this special occasion, Niagara Falls will be illuminated in blue on Wednesday, May 1 from 9:45 to 10 p.m., with the illumination viewable virtually. Additionally, the City of Welland’s Bridge 13 will be illuminated in blue from dusk until dawn as a gesture of gratitude.

Doctors’ Day is celebrated annually on May 1 across Ontario to recognize the province’s doctors and their commitment to improving the health of all patients. The date was chosen to mark the birthday of Dr. Emily Stowe, the first woman to practice medicine in Canada and a founder of Canada’s women’s movement.
