Construction Underway on New $231 Million HCA Florida Gainesville Hospital as Part of Statewide Expansion
HCA Florida Healthcare Breaks Ground on $231 Million Gainesville Hospital
Construction has officially begun on the new $231 million HCA Florida Gainesville Hospital, marking the latest development in HCA’s expansion plans across the state. The project kicked off with a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the recently opened HCA Florida Gainesville Emergency Room, which will be transformed into a full-service hospital over the next 18 months.
“We’re excited to begin construction on what will be a state-of-the-art, full-service hospital and medical offices to expand access to healthcare, including acute care, for our growing community,” said Eric Lawson, CEO of HCA Florida North Florida Hospital.
The new hospital, set to open in early 2026, will feature a surgical services department, a catheterization lab, 60 medical/surgical beds, a 30-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit, and a full range of imaging services. It is expected to employ over 200 colleagues, including physicians, healthcare professionals, and support staff.
Eric Godet Sr., president and CEO of the Greater Gainesville Chamber and board member of HCA Florida North Florida Hospital, highlighted the positive economic impact of the project, noting the new jobs it will create and the potential for additional business growth in the area.
The groundbreaking ceremony and ribbon cutting for the existing HCA Florida Gainesville Emergency Room were celebrated with a community event and open house, offering tours of the new emergency facility which is open 24/7 for adults and children.
This development is part of a larger trend of major construction projects in the healthcare industry, with notable examples including a $1 billion transformation project for Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh and plans for a $45 million replacement facility for McLeod Health in South Carolina.
As construction progresses on the HCA Florida Gainesville Hospital, the community can look forward to enhanced healthcare services and economic growth in the region.
