Sarasota Memorial Celebrates Topping Out of $75 Million Research & Education Institute
Sarasota Memorial and their design/build team are marking a significant milestone this week with the official “topping out” of the five-story, $75 million Kolschowsky Research & Education Institute. The topping out ceremony, held at the construction site on 1880 Arlington Street, signifies that the new facility has reached its maximum height of 82 feet.
CEO David Verinder expressed his pride in reaching this milestone, acknowledging the hard work of the construction crew who have persevered through challenging weather conditions to get to this point. He emphasized that this achievement is not only a testament to the dedication of the workers but also a pivotal moment for the health system and the community.
As construction progresses, workers will focus on installing support steel, exterior walls, windows, interior framing, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems. Roofing is scheduled to begin in March. The project has already seen significant progress, with over 10,000 tons of concrete poured and more than 700 tons of reinforcing steel installed.
The Kolschowsky Research & Education Institute is set to open in mid-2025 and will serve as a cutting-edge training and research center, expanding opportunities for physicians and clinicians in the region. The institute will support clinical trials, research studies, and education programs, including a state-of-the-art simulation center for hands-on training.
With a focus on collaboration and innovation, the 80,000-square-foot institute will consolidate and enhance Sarasota Memorial’s existing programs, attracting top talent and bringing advanced treatments and specialists to the area. The health system’s research and graduate medical education programs have experienced significant growth in recent years, with a strong emphasis on providing high-quality care and training opportunities.
Sarasota Memorial Health Care System is a leading regional referral center in Southwest Florida, serving over 1 million patients annually. The health system is known for its exceptional patient outcomes, comprehensive services, and commitment to community health. The addition of the Kolschowsky Research & Education Institute will further enhance Sarasota Memorial’s reputation as a center of excellence in healthcare.
