Connecticut Office of Health Strategy Provides Update on Pending Hospital Acquisitions
The pending acquisitions of Prospect Medical Holdings, Inc. by Yale New Haven Health and the Prospect CT Medical Foundation by Northeast Medical Group have been a topic of concern for many in Connecticut, especially in the towns of Vernon, Manchester, and Waterbury. The Connecticut Office of Health Strategy recently issued a statement regarding the progress of these acquisitions, stating that “confidential settlement negotiations” are still ongoing.
The deal involves major players such as Rockville General Hospital, Manchester Memorial Hospital, and Waterbury Hospital. Vernon Mayor Dan Champagne has expressed frustration over the length of time it is taking to finalize the deal, calling it a “public health issue that affects the entire region.”
The agreement, announced last year, includes the acquisition of two Connecticut health systems from Prospect, as well as related businesses, real estate assets, physician clinic operations, and outpatient services. The purchase price has not been disclosed, and the deal is subject to regulatory approvals, prompting the involvement of the OHS.
The OHS statement emphasized the complexity of the acquisition process, noting that it is not unusual for such transactions to take a year or more to complete. Manchester Mayor Jay Moran remains optimistic about the outcome, while Vernon Town Administrator Michael Purcaro is calling for accountability and action to prevent a public health crisis.
Waterbury officials have not provided immediate comment, and officials from the entities involved are not commenting due to a confidentiality agreement. As the negotiations continue at the state level, the residents of these towns are eagerly awaiting a resolution that will ensure the continued provision of quality healthcare services in their communities.
