Progress Update on Iredell Memorial Hospital Expansion Project
Iredell Memorial Hospital in North Carolina is undergoing a major expansion of its emergency department and critical care unit, with construction progressing swiftly and on track for completion in 2024.
The hospital’s emergency department is being expanded by 4,805 square feet, while the critical care unit is being expanded by 11,195 square feet, including the renovation of the existing unit. The project is being overseen by general contractor Rodgers Builders, Inc.
Progress on the construction is evident, with drywall installation in the emergency department at 75% completion and the first coat of paint scheduled to begin soon. In the critical care unit, exterior walls have been insulated, electrical installations are underway, and interior wall framing has begun.
The expansion will add 10 new treatment spaces to the emergency department, including critical care rooms and secure behavioral health holding rooms. The critical care unit will see an increase from 16 to 27 rooms, with special bariatric ceiling lifts and the ability to transform rooms into negative pressure isolation rooms if needed.
The completion of the emergency department expansion is estimated for the first quarter of 2024, with the critical care unit expansion to be completed by June of the same year. The existing critical care unit is projected to be fully renovated by the end of 2024.
Scott Graham, Director of Engineering and Building Operations at Iredell Health System, praised the progress of the project, stating that the expansion will benefit patients, staff, and the community as the hospital continues to meet the growing healthcare needs of Iredell County.
