Intermountain Health Nurse-Midwives Celebrate Over 1,500 Births Attended in 2023

Salt Lake City, April 29, 2024 – In a heartwarming milestone, Intermountain Health Nurse-Midwives have proudly announced that they attended over 1,500 births in 2023. This dedicated team of certified nurse-midwives has been providing exceptional care to expectant mothers in Utah for 35 years, starting at Intermountain LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City in 1989.

With a team of more than 50 certified nurse-midwives spread across 16 Intermountain Health hospital locations in Utah, from Logan to St. George, these compassionate caregivers have been instrumental in bringing new life into the world. Beginning on May 1, they will resume their important work of “catching babies” at Intermountain LDS Hospital.

Che Fullmer, DNP, CNM, a certified nurse-midwife with Intermountain Health, shared, “In our practice alone during the last 35 years, we have attended the births of nearly 16,000 babies. Many people don’t realize that most certified nurse-midwives in Utah attend births in hospitals.”

Apart from delivering babies, the Intermountain Nurse-Midwives also provide prenatal care and address a wide range of women’s health concerns from puberty to menopause. They have recently launched a gynecology access clinic to offer comprehensive gynecology care to women in need.

The gynecology access clinic provides timely diagnosis and treatment for various symptoms and concerns, including abnormal vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain, urinary tract infections, birth control consultation, and more. Both virtual and in-person appointments are available, ensuring that patients receive the care they need promptly.

Intermountain nurse-midwives can deliver babies at 16 Utah hospitals, including Intermountain Alta View Hospital, Intermountain American Fork Hospital, Intermountain Cedar City Hospital, and others. This remarkable achievement by the Intermountain Health Nurse-Midwives highlights their dedication to providing exceptional care and support to mothers and families throughout Utah. Their commitment to promoting optimal health during pregnancy and beyond is truly commendable, making them an invaluable asset to the community.
