Jakob Junis of the Milwaukee Brewers Injured in Neck During Batting Practice, Taken to Hospital

Milwaukee Brewers Pitcher Jakob Junis Hit in Neck by Batted Ball During Batting Practice

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jakob Junis was struck in the neck by a batted ball during batting practice before Monday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, causing a scary moment at PNC Park. Junis was on the ground for approximately 20 minutes receiving medical attention from the Brewers’ staff before being taken off the field by an ambulance.

The team later confirmed that Junis was conscious, alert, and responsive as he was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. This incident adds to Junis’ already uncertain status, as he has been on the injured list with a right shoulder impingement since April 6 and had not yet resumed throwing from a mound.

Junis, who signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the Brewers in February, can potentially earn $12 million if his mutual option is picked up next offseason. The right-handed pitcher had a solid start to the regular season, allowing just one earned run in 4.0 innings.

Having previously played for the San Francisco Giants and the Kansas City Royals, Junis holds a career record of 38-45 with a 4.63 ERA. Despite the scary incident, the Brewers and Pirates proceeded with their game as scheduled, with Pittsburgh holding a 1-0 lead through three innings.
