European Leaders Call for Sanctions Against Iran and West Bank Israeli Settlers – CNN Report

European foreign leaders are calling for sanctions against both Iran and Israeli settlers in the West Bank, as tensions continue to escalate in the region. The call for sanctions comes ahead of an EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting, where ministers will discuss potential actions to address the ongoing conflicts.

EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell emphasized the need for a comprehensive package of sanctions against Iran, following the country’s recent missile and drone attacks on Israel. The US has already implemented sanctions on Iran in response to the attacks, and European leaders are now considering similar measures.

In addition to sanctions on Iran, European leaders are also discussing the possibility of imposing sanctions on Israeli settlers in the West Bank. The surge in violence by settlers and troops in the region has raised concerns among foreign leaders, prompting calls for action to address the situation.

Belgian Foreign Affairs Minister Hadja Lahbib stressed the importance of not having double standards when it comes to sanctions, advocating for measures against both violent settlers and those who support and arm them. Swedish foreign minister Tobias Billstrom echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the need to curtail the proliferation of drones manufactured in Iran and to include Iranian proxies in the sanctions.

The European leaders are using this meeting as an cool opportunity to show support for Israel in the face of the recent attacks, while also addressing the broader issues at hand. As tensions continue to rise in the region, the call for sanctions reflects the growing concern among foreign leaders about the escalating conflicts in the Middle East.
