Mayo Clinic and Mercy Collaborate to Anonymize Clinical Data

Mayo Clinic and Mercy partner to analyze de-identified patient data for improved healthcare outcomes

Mayo Clinic and Mercy Partner to De-Identify Patient Data for Disease Prevention

In an innovative collaboration, Minnesota-based Mayo Clinic and St. Louis-based Mercy have joined forces to de-identify patient data in their quest to find new ways to diagnose, treat, and prevent disease. Through Mayo Clinic Platform_Connect, a distributed data network that provides secure access to de-identified clinical data, the two organizations will now be able to analyze data from each other’s health systems.

This partnership significantly expands the data set available for researchers and innovators, allowing them to better identify risk factors, predict illnesses, and provide earlier treatment. Mayo Clinic Platform has also recently added three new healthcare organizations to its global collaboration, bringing the total number of members to eight across seven countries on three continents.

By de-identifying patient data and using Mayo Clinic Platform’s Data Behind Glass approach, each organization retains control over its outcomes while being able to look for trends, indicators, and risk factors. Mayo Clinic and Mercy plan to develop products, algorithms, and tools that can be shared with other health systems to improve patient care.

“This unprecedented data set allows us to harness the power of artificial intelligence to develop algorithms and validate treatment plans effectively for complex patient populations,” said Joe Kelly, executive vice president and chief transformation officer for Mercy. “These algorithms can help us predict chronic diseases and proactively assist patients earlier in their care, improving outcomes and reducing costs for both patients and health systems.”

The partnership between Mayo Clinic and Mercy highlights the growing trend of healthcare organizations leveraging data and technology to enhance patient care and drive innovation. With a focus on personalized, patient-centered care, this collaboration aims to revolutionize disease prevention and treatment through the power of data analysis and artificial intelligence.
