Mayo Clinic Health System Opens Newly Expanded Hospital Bed Tower in Mankato, Minnesota
Mayo Clinic Health System has unveiled its impressive $155 million expansion at its hospital campus in Mankato, Minnesota, featuring a brand new hospital bed tower with 121 additional beds and a host of other enhancements.
The newly expanded facility, which began welcoming staff and patients last month, is part of Mayo Clinic’s Bold. Forward. initiative, designed to meet the evolving needs of patients by integrating physical spaces and digital capabilities.
The expansion project involved adding three floors to an existing two-storey structure on the campus, which houses the Andreas Cancer Center, a Specialty Clinic foyer, and an emergency department. The new tower connects to the hospital and includes an expanded intensive care unit (ICU), Progressive Care Unit, Family Birth Center, and Medical-Surgical Unit, among other facilities.
James Hebl, Mayo Clinic Health System Southwest Minnesota regional vice-president, expressed excitement about the opening of the new facility, emphasizing its role in providing timely access to care while keeping patients close to home for routine medical care, advanced surgical procedures, or emergency services.
Mayo Clinic president and CEO Gianrico Farrugia highlighted the importance of the digital and physical integration in the new facility, stating that it will enhance collaboration across Mayo Clinic sites and provide a seamless care experience for patients and their families.
The expansion aims to address the growing healthcare needs of the community, particularly during emergencies, epidemics, and other health crises, by increasing the campus’ bed capacity and improving access to medical care.
The opening of the new hospital bed tower marks a significant milestone for Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, showcasing its ongoing commitment to the health and well-being of the community.
