Heading: Update on Site Selection for Third Hospital in K-W
The anticipation for a third hospital in Waterloo Region is building as a site selection panel has narrowed down potential locations to two undisclosed sites in K-W. The boards of Grand River Hospital and St. Mary’s General Hospital have approved the panel’s recommendations, moving the project one step closer to reality.
In a statement released today, Grand River Hospital president and CEO Ron Gagnon confirmed that negotiations with the two landowners are in the early stages. Gagnon expressed optimism that a deal could be reached in the next couple of months but refrained from disclosing the exact locations to avoid speculation and maintain the integrity of the negotiation process.
Factors such as land price, size (a minimum of 50 acres), population density, and accessibility to major roads, highways, and transit were considered in the selection process. The chosen site must also have the capacity to accommodate a helipad.
Once the land purchase is finalized, the panel plans to provide further updates on the location and other details of the project. Grand River Hospital and St. Mary’s General Hospital are collaborating on this initiative and are also exploring the possibility of forming a unified hospital network.
The community eagerly awaits the development of this state-of-the-art hospital, which promises to enhance healthcare services in the region. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project.
