Slovakia Prime Minister Robert Fico in Critical Condition After Being Shot Multiple Times

Slovakia’s longest-serving Prime Minister, Robert Fico, is fighting for his life after being shot multiple times by a 71-year-old attacker. The incident occurred on Wednesday, and Fico was airlifted to a hospital in Banská Bystrica for emergency treatment.

The latest update on Fico’s health condition, provided by Erik Tomáš for Markíza television, revealed that the surgery was taking longer than expected as several of his organs were hit during the attack. The Prime Minister is currently in a serious condition, and the next few hours are crucial for his recovery.

Defense Minister Robert Kalinak confirmed that Fico’s surgical procedure was ongoing late into the evening and described his condition as “extraordinarily serious.” Kalinak stated that Fico had suffered “serious trauma” from the multiple gunshot wounds.

The operation is taking place at the FD Roosevelt Hospital in Banska Bystrica, with Interior Minister Matúš Å utaj EÅ¡tok and Minister of Health JUDr. Zuzana Dolinková present at the medical facility. A police cordon has been deployed outside the hospital’s emergency department.
